Future Lawyer Shares Joys of Volunteerism

Like Sam, Ma. Aiza Joy Clarito, 23-year-old, a second year law student at Central Philippine University, Iloilo City, also stayed at the DSWD Operation Center for 20 days during disaster operations for victims of typhoon “Frank.”

With an undergraduate course of Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management, Aiza knows that what is happening now—the floods that have destroyed lives and properties in Panay—can be traced back to mankind’s neglect of his environment.  A member of the YMCA of Iloilo City Youth Volunteer Group, Aiza feels that it is her responsibility to help the less fortunate in her own little way--- that is by being a volunteer.

She is the daughter of Lt. Col. Medardo Clarito of the Philippine Army, and 45-year-old Arsekina Clarito. She has four other siblings namely Medardo Jr., Chis Arvin, Abe Jun and Albie. Medardo and Chris also joined Aiza in her volunteer work.

“We were tapped by the Iloilo Coalition of Non-Government Organizations. When we do volunteer work, even though we get nothing, it gives us a feeling of fulfillment. Although we were slightly affected by typhoon Frank, we still feel lucky because we are better off that those who had nothing left with them. Packing relief goods…such simple chore…is our way of helping,” Aiza said.

She added, “One time while I was watching television, and then I saw the relief packs with DSWD labels flashed. I cannot help but exclaimed, “those are the goods that we packed. Indeed, I felt good, Aiza said.
