DSWD Social Welfare Institutional Development Bureau Director Ma. Suzette Agcaoili said that 554 employees of Accenture helped in repacking relief goods at the DSWD - National Resource Operations Center (NROC) warehouses in Pasay City during three consecutive Saturdays of November.
Ms. Lani O. Cruz, team leader of Accenture -- a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company based here in the Philippines, said the volunteer program is part of their Accenture Caring for Tomorrow (ACT) program.
Ms Cruz added that their ACT program aims to help others and share their gains with the community.
“I am glad I was part of this volunteer work. The whole process was actually more fun than I expected and since I worked with my officemates, the synergy created was awesome,” Ms. Cruz quipped.
Asked how the Bayanihang Bayan Program helped achieve their goals, she said that a program like the Bayanihang Bayan helps organizations in expanding their network, increasing awareness and enlisting participation of employees in fulfilling their corporate social responsibility.
Other organizations that rendered volunteer service include United Parcel Service (UPS), Times Trading; United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP); University of the Philippines (UP), Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI), Manila Doctors College (MDC), Alpha Phi Omega (APO), Singles for Christ (SFC), and Rock Ed.
Most of these volunteers were deployed in DSWD’s NROC, and some were referred to Malacañang's Operation Sagip Bayan Center. ### (Eduard O. Gonong, SWIDB - December 10, 2009)
