Eye Specialists Help Elderlies, PWDs Regain Clear Sight

Two local eye specialists helped some seniors of the Home for Elderlies and clients of Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) III gain back their clear sight after conducting cataract operations last August 21, 2009 at the Central Sanitarium in Pasobolong, Zamboanga City.

The two doctors who provided voluntary services were Dr. Victorio Cajitas and Dr. Joeven Monsanto from Cebu City and Zamboanga City, respectively.  Both Dr. Cajitas and Dr. Monsanto are into private practice.  It was through the efforts of Dr. Gracia Gacrama, the Officer-in-Charge of the AVRC III, that the clients of AVRC III and Home for Elderlies were able to avail of free medical services from Dr. Cajitas and Dr. Monsanto.  Prior to the operation, initial assessment was conducted last July 21, 2009 at the Home for the Elderly.  Eight were qualified out of 12 elderly residents while two persons with disability (PWDs) also availed of the free services.

The services of the good doctors also included weekly check-ups done at the center with medicines also provided to the clients during the overnight stay at the hospital.

Dr. Gracia Gacrama and Ms. Nenita Cartagenas commended the assistance of the benevolent doctors who have given their clients a very special gift—their new clear vision.  (Written by Ms. Narrabelle Z. Bue, DSWD Field Office IX)
